tis the season

30 November 2008

I just watched A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!, and although it was really funny, spoofing the 1970’s-style Christmas specials to a tee, for me it does not beat the gut-bustingly irreverent & hilarious South Park’s Mr Hankey’s Christmas Classics, complete with Jesus & Santa Claus singing the lounge duet version of Rio by Duran Duran…My roommate had bought me the CD way back when, but it was unfortunately one that was stolen from my car, and I’ve missed it for years. I think I should get my hands on the episode finally so I can see it again!

Looks like I can download the episode Mr. Hankey’s Christmas Classics, or buy last year’s Christmas DVD collection Christmas Time In South Park…hmm…I’ll think about it as I’m putting up my tree & decorations tomorrow… :) Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

twilight

21 November 2008

Just got back from the midnight showing…unfortunately even over an hour early and 3 open theatres, we could only sit in the 2nd row center…boy does my neck hurt! It was also out of focus that close, but there’s a lot of soft focus anyway, and it is set in overcast Washington state, so I guess it could have been worse. Of course there are nitpicks as when any book is transferred to film, some more understandable than others, but the essence of the book shows through. I definitely do NOT miss highschool in the least, especially goofy highschool boys, which was made clear by the very believable fellow students on screen. 😉 Boy was there product placement! Bella had a black MacBook, not sure if that was a white iPhone or not, lots of Google searching, even including Amazon.com screen shots. I also kept cracking up at the copious cans of Rainier beer with the distinctive curly red R on the silver can. I would like to see the movie at the proper distance with the proper focus but don’t need to spend another $11 to do so…could be on DVD someday instead. I did have a fun movie watching partner in the gushing Team Edward fan next to me…thanks Josh! I finally have book 3 courtesy of Lori – it has even been backordered on Amazon, so the rest of them had to be careful discussing plot points since I was asking not to be spoiled, but I will not be starting that tonight, since I need some sleep!

P.S. The new Half-Blood Prince trailer was also uncomfortable to watch being so close! I guess I’ll need to download it to see it properly…

new Star Trek trailer!

17 November 2008

The new Star Trek movie trailer was released today, with actual content, including a scene on Vulcan! I am excited now, even though I know I will have to distance myself from my own personal Trek canon to enjoy this film… As long as they do NOT mess too much with my beloved Spock, I can consider this just another facet of Trek, like how I can enjoy the original Oz books as well as Wicked, even though they are such completely different interpretations of the same source material.

Official Star Trek Movie website (trailer & gallery – much fancier than when I saw this site last week!)
exclusive footage from RottenTomatoes.com (mostly the same but a few different glimpses)

I was hoping I could get away with my Classic Trek miniskirt uniform for the movie opening…but seeing the photos in the gallery on the official website, Uhura is wearing a red v-neck, waffle-weave tshirt minidress & black mock turtleneck instead. If I can do some thriftstore shopping before May & find the perfect stuff, that might be easy enough to do…we’ll see!

You can also find spoilers of 4 scenes shown to press on RottenTomatoes.com in Related Articles as “RT Sees Star Trek Footage”, but for extra safety I won’t even provide the link in case you want to remain spoiler-free. The trailer had me excited, then the scene reports had me scaling back into my “separate but equal” opinion above. Let’s just say it’ll be quite difficult to reconcile with even the little snippets of canon that we have from that early period. 😉

I am finally over my nasty cold that had me out of commission for 2 weeks around Halloween day (waah!), so now that another major project is so close to fruition, I think I can finally get my Alaska trip posted!
