happy birthday to me

27 July 2008

My grandmother and I will be cruising the Alaskan coastline in one month! Aug 29th-Sept 5th on the Celebrity Infinity sailing from Seattle, supposedly a very nice ship from at least two personal accounts. She’s gone several times before and said to me “September is no problem…it’s beautiful weather” to which I replied, “Grandma, I remember you said ‘I’ve cruised the Caribbean in October plenty of times and hurricanes are no problem’…and the last cruise I took with you we ended up in Hurricane Roxanne!” haha…

At any rate, as of earlier today the cruise is now booked with an ocean view stateroom with excursions at each port, including a sled dog ride with time for husky puppy cuddling (how cute is that?!?), and a cider brewery & farm on Vancouver Island, among other cool things. I haven’t been that impressed with the cruises I’ve been on before, but the Alaska cruises have sounded different, more for the gorgeous scenery, glaciers & wildlife than the sunbathing & partying of other cruising, especially since my grandma is turning 94 in November, and even though she’s still doing very well, I’m not sure how many more years I will have to travel with her. For those of you who might be saying “traveling with grandma?!?” let me describe to you how she was dancing for her 90th birthday to “Five Foot Two” with her full glass of scotch on the rocks in hand, nary spilling a drop. That’s MY grandma! :)

I just saw The Dark Knight in IMAX…OH…MY….GOSH…!

I had heard a lot of it was filmed in IMAX, which is square aspect ratio, but I assumed they would crop for normal widescreen and show the same version but on the big IMAX screen…no way! About half the movie was full IMAX, filling the screen, and shots obviously composed for that format with details at the very bottom & top of the screen! Very impressive! Add that to the movie that everyone has been talking about already for the same reasons – Oscar-worthy performance as the truly psychotic Joker, sophisticated character development of why anyone would become either Batman or the Joker (or even Two-Face), and you have your must-see film of the summer for sure…but you already knew that. All I’m telling you is that if you thought you saw Dark Knight already but didn’t see it on IMAX, go see it again…and I’ll go with you! Honestly I am curious how they cropped those IMAX shots down to widescreen or if they panned & scanned vertically…heh! I had seen the first 6 minutes on widescreen on the BluRay of Batman Begins this past weekend, so seeing that same portion in IMAX the story was the same of course, but the impact was even more impressive.

Thank goodness I have outgrown the nightmares I used to get when I was a little girl…definitely not your friendly neighborhood Batman movie for the kids!

dude – you are NOT my nemesis!

Freakin’ hilarious “supervillain musical” by Joss Whedon, and if you don’t watch today, you’ll have to buy it from iTunes or wait for the DVD…so what are you waiting for?!?

Here’s the first look from Entertainment Weekly…Spock is the best, but you knew I’d say that since he’s always been my favorite. Look closely at the reflections in the eyes…here’s to May 8th 2009! Maybe I should get out my classic Trek red minidress for the midnight movie? 😉

Too many updates I’m not quite ready to post about seeing The Police again in Concord Wednesday night with awesome FREE seats, and the 10th birthday party for Equinix yesterday…but now I need a Friday to relax!

finally! :D

10 July 2008

I got email from Amazon this morning that Spaced: The Complete Series is finally available for all regions! Previously it was only available as Region 2. I’ve only seen the first 6 episodes on a Virgin Atlantic flight, but they were absolutely hilarious. If you liked Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz (Widescreen Edition), you will laugh at these. They won’t arrive until the day after my birthday, but who can I inflict them on first? heehee…
