you know you’re a Trekkie when…

22 November 2005

…you recognize Dr. Bashir from Deep Space Nine from the tiniest fraction of a second he appears in the 30-second TV trailer for the new movie Syriana

Sorry…that cracked me up…still laughing!

Yes, it did require a Tivo rewind & pause to verify the name (Alexander Siddig) but I was RIGHT! To add more geekness, which I realize is not necessary, I also know that for the first few seasons of DS9 on the opening credits he was Siddig El Fadil before he changed to Alexander Siddig…and that he & Nana Visitor (Kira) got married before the series ended…it was their baby who was written into the plot when Kira was surrogate mother for the O’Briens…okay, Britta, you can stop now! 😛

lots of good with a little bit of bad

The Saturday garage sale was an overall grand success!

Goblet of Fire movie is EXCELLENT!

18 November 2005

Like you’re surprised at that review? 😉 It was very cute how much attention I got especially from teenagers since there were quite a few in robes with glasses & wands, etc, but I had the most authentic costume. I never mentioned how old I was…heh! Since we were chilly this evening, Cyd & I decided to heat up my butterbeer in the microwave & take it in my thermos, which worked well enough even though the fizz goes away. The luckiest people who were brave enough to come up and ask for some got some butterbeer for themselves before we ran out. 😉

Yes, when the movie is compared to the book SO much is missing, but we knew it had to be that way. I understand why they made the changes they did, and I think the changes worked well to translate to movie format. Definitely several sniffles around me for Cedric, and the Hungarian Horntail scene is a perfect model of suspense. Seeing an HP midnight show was cool, but there were times the crowd was laughing or cheering so loudly that we couldn’t hear the next line! Ah well…just a reason to see it again…can’t wait to see it on IMAX on Saturday! :)

ARGH

16 November 2005

The tickets were never purchased in person for the midnight IMAX show at the Metreon and they’re already sold out (someone had volunteered to go there vs. us paying the online fee), so now I’m scrambling to see when I’m going to see Goblet of Fire…The rest of the “normal” local HP crew is going on Saturday when we’re having the garage sale, and we can’t go Friday night because we’re setting up the garage sale, so this is making things wacko…it really shouldn’t be this hard to see a darn movie…

*sigh*

Update: Okay, so now the Thursday evening crew is down to two, so we will see a midnight show in San Jose, then the other person & I will see the 8:30pm Metreon IMAX Saturday evening AND THOSE TICKETS ARE ALREADY PURCHASED ONLINE AND PRINTED…this will be the least people I’ve been with for any HP film…for HP#1 even at the 9am showing opening day I had 3 people with me, then for CoS & PoA opening weekends it was 10 or more each time…oh well…that means more butterbeer for me… 😉

another busy weekend

7 November 2005

This past weekend was our recording session for our Choral Project Christmas CD. This will be a public release, available for sale on Amazon, like our last CD Water & Light, for sale through us at concerts or us directly, and I even heard some scuttlebutt that we might be listed for sale soon on iTunes too…cool! I’m really excited that this CD will turn out great…I’m already planning on it being my Christmas gifts for my entire family for sure! :)

Recording like that is always really tiring…9am-4pm on Saturday, then from 1-4pm again on Sunday for the rest. Even though it took a long time, it all went very well, without too many repeated sections. We even have an awesome organist playing full-stop on one piece (that sounded awesome to sing in person, so it must sound great on the recording!), and a steel drummer with electric bass and drums on the calypso-style Mary’s Boy Child, which has my one tiny solo. Too bad my solo is too short with about 7 other people having solos on the same piece, so I’ll bet I don’t end up with a solo credit on the CD liner. Such is the story of my life with solos…

Sunday morning was the first full night’s sleep I’ve had since well before my LA trip then the final Halloween crunch, so thankfully my cat was cooperative in letting me sleep in! Mixed in with the recording was a viewing of the Nightmare Before Christmas on Saturday night, since Melanie had never seen the whole thing, then dinner for Keith’s birthday last night, so those were fun, too.

Now I still have to clean up a lot of Halloween mess in my house…heh! Hope you all had good weekends… :)
