funny!

19 August 2005

I didn’t know that the East Palo Alto IKEA has put up one of those huge full-color display boards visible from Hwy 101. The funny thing was that yesterday when I drove by, what I saw instead of anything cool was the highly-recognizable Internet Explorer “This page cannot be found” error complete with blue lower-case “i”…that cracked me up as much as that image way back when of one of the arrival/departure screens at Heathrow showing the old Windows “blue screen of death”.. 😉

This quote is hilarious!

Beloved Kermit the Frog Approaching 50

As for Kermit’s own private birthday bash? He’s unsure what to expect, but he’s prepared for anything from that wacky Muppet menagerie — even exotic dancers.

“Listen, you can send a stripper to my party if you like,” he said. “It won’t affect me because, as you can see, I am appearing naked, which I always try to do because I’m kind of a natural guy.”

As a freshman in highschool I was in the chorus of Pippin, a musical I’d never heard of before and haven’t really given much thought since, except that I have found out that Ben Vereen was in the original Broadway cast back in the 70s…amazing I don’t really remember too much of being in that show, when all the other musicals I’ve been in I can rattle off the entire show. However, tonight I was watching Curb Your Enthusiam, where a blind piano player was covering show tunes, and he started singing a song…as he kept singing I remembered it was the main theme from Pippin, “Corner of the Sky” – a song I couldn’t have sung on demand if you’d asked me 10 minutes ago, but now I remember “hey I liked that song!”

So, I can’t remember all the lyrics, which is always really annoying when you can only sing part of a song over & over, so I thought maybe this might be a decent $0.99 purchase off iTunes. Searching on the exact title “Corner of the Sky” I get 17 results, including 10 that are indeed the song I’m searching for. Three are different Jackson 5 versions(!), one Diana Ross, a couple other disco divas I assume from the preview snippet but I don’t recognize the names – I guess this really was popular in the 70s? – then also some various Broadway compilation albums but I didn’t like any of their voices…but no Ben Vereen, let alone ANY cast recording! Shame, really, since even though all the disco versions are cool in a retro way, I wanted a nice lyrical performance like a cast recording would have…ah well…back to singing the chunk I do know I guess… 😉

“Everything has its season
Everything has its time
Show me a reason and I’ll soon show you a rhyme
Cats fit on the windowsill
Children fit in the snow
Why do I feel I don’t fit in anywhere I go?

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free
Gotta find my corner of the sky…”

(I wanted to post this Wednesday afternoon, so let’s just pretend I did, okay? Yeah I could backdate but whatever…)

How’s this for geekily cool? Right now, I am nibbling on chocolate that was just featured on last night’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy episode! Darn good timing, eh?

My co-worker just flew in from New York City and passed around Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven chocolate bars for all of us. I really needed chocolate at the moment, so I started nibbling, and I figured it was something New York cool that I just didn’t know about, which often happens with me…but then I looked at the wrapper again & thought Chocolate Haven sounded familiar, and I was right! My co-worker had no clue it was just on Queer eye, but he was quite impressed I made my chocolate last for two days…it was DELICIOUS! :-9

(This post was delayed because I tried verifying on the Queer Eye website, but they had everything EXCEPT the Food & Wine section updated for episode Michael L., so I had to wait until I had the chance to review my TiVo which was just right now…)
