off I go!

27 December 2004

I’m off for the airport for the forever-long flight to Heathrow…at least I did Virgin Atlantic web checkin and I have a window seat which is good for sleeping, but their legroom leaves much to be desired for my stupidly long legs…I blame my 6’5″ tall father! 😉 I’m hoping to sleep since tomorrow afternoon is my only real chance for any leisure time in London, so I want to be awake enough to enjoy it. We’re leaving the next morning to drive to Cornwall for all the hiking and pubbing “unstructured time” with his friends & his sister. Even though I’ve been warned it’s been snowing everywhere except London, I’m insisting on wearing a short skirt with tights and a sweater on the plane, since that’s the only chance I have to look cute! heh! I’ve brought hiking boots, jeans & sweaters in various layers for all the hiking & pubbing you see, so I am being practical for the rest of the time…

Anyway, must get ready to leave for the airport! No internet for an entire week – heh!

Happy New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas from Edmonds!

24 December 2004

I’m here on dialup at my grandmother’s house outside Seattle. Uneventful enough flight this morning, thank goodness, but I had only a 1-hr nap since I have been fighting with Final Cut Pro and iDVD all night to get this DVD authored of my grandmother’s 90th birthday party. I actually had to cancel out after waiting 3.5 hours while it encoded since I had to shut down the external hard drive power to leave for the airport at 6am…then I’ve tried twice again today to burn the DVD, which takes compression time from iDVD first, but after waiting 5 hours each time, it crashes! AARGH! So much for that Christmas gift, eh? I even have the labels & cases all pretty, ready for the DVDs to put in them…at least this time I was able to go online while I still had the bug report to send to Apple, so maybe someday I’ll get to author a DVD out of it. At this point, I’m going to try exporting the edited video out of FCP straight to VCR via my camcorder at least, in hopes I can at least give one copy to my grandmother (who doesn’t have a DVD player anyway).

At least I am now fully over my cold now, which was good timing since I’ve had about 3 hours total sleep since yesterday night…hehe…all the other presents are wrapped & under the tree, so I’m ready…except for the darn DVD issue…*sigh*

Merry Christmas everyone! Here is my Christmas photo for you to enjoy…haha…

What Planet Are You From?

14 December 2004

This is stolen from Nathania’s blog…but I have a bit of an issue, since the Sun is a star, not a planet! Ah well…

You Are From the Sun

Of all your friends, you’re the shining star.
You’re dramatic – loving attention and the spotlight.
You’re a total entertainer and the life of the party.
Watch out! The Sun can be stubborn, demanding, and flirty.
Overall, you’re a great leader and great friend. The very best!

Unfortunately I’m still sick, so I don’t feel very sunlike today…heh…

busy busy busy…

13 December 2004

The Choral Project concerts went quite well this weekend! Sunday night was a small but appreciative audience in Hollister, Saturday was about half full of Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, but Friday night we packed the place, which means probably 700 people in Saratoga, who even jumped to their feet mid-concert when we finished the Biebl “Ave Maria”…! That was awesome!

I hosted a post-concert party on Friday night, which was packed since my place is small, but it was a good time, and everyone raved about my food and decor, so that’s all good…my parents even drove all the way from Sac to the concert and even stopped by my party afterwards…their first Britta party, so that meant a lot to me… :)

Unfortunately, my throat started getting a tickle during last night’s concert that has developed overnight into the same cold that has been going around the whole choir, so I’m working from home today to get well. This coming weekend I have three more days of singing gigs, but this time I’m the lead soprano in essentially a quartet of college friends called Cibo Cantabimus, much more exposed than a full choir, so I’ve got to be well by then! I’m also hoping to do more holiday baking this week, but I have to be careful not to infect anyone…hehe…

Hope your holiday season is going well!

Finding Neverland

3 December 2004

Go see it…NOW!

If this film doesn’t get several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and Best Supporting Actor for the boy who plays Peter Llewelyn Davies (Freddie Highmore), I will eat whichever hat you so choose! It captures the nature of imagination and the virtues of staying young at heart even when life requires children to grow up too soon in a beautiful visual way perfect for film. Not many films make me blubber like that, tears running down my neck even…I hadn’t read any reviews in advance or perhaps I would have been prepared with a tissue or two! 😉 Yes, I did cry way back when I read Peter Pan when everyone must clap to save Tinkerbell, but here it has even extra poignancy…I won’t give away any more…

Anyway, I repeat, go see Finding Neverland as soon as you possibly can!
