Travels Up the West Coast: July 1997
Day Seven
Day Seven: July 13th, 1997...Sunday
We were invited for an early dinner at my aunt and uncle's house in Bellevue (so I would have a chance to see my cousin Steven), so my grandmother, Marcus and I decided we needed to see more of downtown Seattle that day before dinner...Here's the Spaceneedle...what trip to Seattle is complete without seeing that?...
You can see some of the view behind me...This is at the observation deck of the Spaceneedle...
Marcus got the better picture of the view due to his better camera, but he still didn't get Mount Rainier...
...but I could zoom with the videocamera, so I got it! You can just barely make out the ghostly mountaintop over to the right, but if you click on the picture, you'll see a closer image...This was the only day we ever saw Mount Rainier, and it's usually everywhere you look (when there aren't clouds everywhere instead)...
Marcus and my grandmother engrossed in the view...I think my grandmother was still pointing out where buildings were that she and my grandfather used to own, but the city condemned them to make room for the Spaceneedle and the World's Fair in 1962...
The Seattle Monorail, also still left from the World's Fair, runs every fifteen minutes to downtown and back, so we decided to save ourselves the walk and/or new parking fee...
I guess it's like most monorails, in that since it only has one track, it runs both directions with a nose at each end...
Here's a view of some of downtown Seattle from the waterfront...I think I was having too much fun with the videocamera, since this was the reaction I got when I asked my grandmother and Marcus to wave...
I think everyone takes this picture, and I know that Dave Taubler's parents have it up on their wall by their kitchen!...
One of the things this open market it famous for is the fresh fish and how the workers throw them to each other. This place has this logo on the back of their t-shirts, and we saw them throw a HUGE fish across to the counter!...
After dinner my aunt drove us over to Snoqualmie and the waterfalls there...Do you recognize this picture at all? David Lynch fans should know, but others can click on the picture to find out why it might be familiar...
Ah, but you see, this proves we were really there, instead of me just pretending somehow!...
On the way back, the sun and the clouds were making a beautiful sunset, so I ran down the battery on the videocamera taking pictures of clouds...but you can just barely see the I-90 road sign at the bottom...
Yes, I know, more clouds, but I still think they were really pretty!...
