Travels in the United Kingdom:
September 1997
Stratford-upon-Avon
Even though it's probably one of the more touristy places to go, how could I pass up a chance to visit the town world-renowned as the birthplace (and deathplace) of the Immortal Bard? Here's Marcus at the town sign...
This was John Harvard's house...yes, he is the Harvard who gave the famous American university it's name (hence the American flag flying in front)...and no, this picture is not an ad for a Mazda Miata/MX-5...!
I think when I have my own house someday, I'll have to get one of these lightposts and hang some flower baskets on it (see Day Five of Travels to Seattle for more lightposts with flower baskets). This is in front of Shakespeare's Birthplace...
...and here I am pointing the way to the entrance to the house itself, after we'd made it through the historical exhibits...
Irony, you say? Marcus as a court jester? You never know..progress is being made with him smiling with his teeth in photos...!
This is Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare's grave is located ("...cursed be he who moves my bones..."), but it was already closed for services when we got there...
...so we wandered around the churchyard taking pictures. We knew we were going to come back to "finish" in the near future, since we purchased the tickets that got us into all five "Shakespeare Houses", and we'd only been to one...so Stratford-upon-Avon is "to be continued..."
