From nc1421@noc.netcom.net Thu Nov 18 10:35:48 1999 Date: Sun, 29 Mar 1998 10:38:52 -0800 (PST) From: Britta Peterson To: incident-reports@noc.netcom.net Subject: OPERATIONS INCIDENT REPORT: mem-tn Subject: "The Great Memphis POP Heist" Incident Information -------------------- Ticket Number : 281332 Priority : 1 Point of failure : H/W Notified via : NOC Service affecting : Yes Start Time : 03-27-98 21:17 End Time : 03-28-98 03:37 Duration : Hours: 06 Minutes: 20 Report Detail ------------- Problem : Thieves pilfering our POP in mem-tn disconnected the UPS before proceeding to load our equipment into their van. This caused the POP to go down for power reasons first, then for lack of hardware. Resolution : When the FE got to the site, he saw the POP door wide open and the lights on. He immediately suspected burglary and went to find police. Nearby, the police had already apprehended the thieves, and the FE was able to identify the stolen equipment as ours. After the police were finished with their investigation, our equipment was released back to us, and the FE was able to bring it back up, with minor problems still existant (see ticket #281332 for details). Prevention : An alarm system might have prevented this situation, but we would have much more of a problem with normal dispatches with an alarm system in place. ------------------ Britta Peterson nc1421 Network Operations ------------------
