Design-An-Ad Contest
The first time I entered the Sacramento Bee's Design-An-Ad contest was when I was in fifth grade (age 10), and I was a finalist, which means your ad was picked for the first round and you get your picture and ad in the paper...
...but I was lucky and my entry was to do an ad for Crystal Milk Company, which meant my ad got printed on a milk carton AND I got a free half-gallon of ice cream! Woo-hoo!...
I kept trying to enter again every so often, but I always ended up too busy and missing the deadline...So, the next time I entered the Sacramento Bee's Design-An-Ad contest was when I was in eleventh grade (age 16), and I was not only a finalist, but I ended up winning first place in the 10th - 12th age category! I was very surprised, especially since I drew the ad the night before the deadline...The art teachers at my highschool were quite upset since I wasn't taking any art classes at all...I got a nifty little plaque (with the Sacramento Bee cartoon bee logo on it along with my name), the $10 each finalist gets, my picture and ad in the paper and $75...And the store my ad was for gave me a gift certificate...It was a decent awards dinner, and I was definitely surprised...I knew I was in the top three, but I thought for sure I'd be no higher than third...but Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sun were confident that we were the winners all along!
